Frequently asked questions
When should I book my cake?
As soon as you have the basic preliminary details finalized (approx. how
many people, and when/where your event is going to be). Since I book a
limited number of cakes per weekend, popular months such as September
through February book quickly, sometimes 8 months in advance.
Do all the tiers of my cake have to be the same flavour cake?
No, each tier of your cake may be a different flavour.
How do I determine the size of my cake?
If you are going to serve the cake after your dessert course, I would
suggest only ordering for 60-70% of your guest lists. A big portion of
guests don’t like to have cake so by using this method to determine the
size you wont be stuck with loads of leftover cake. It also saves you
money!
What are your Hours of Operation?
Cake Diva is a home based business. Because of this its by appointment
only. Please do not hesitate to call me at 082 412 9953 or email
riana@cakediva.co.za
to make an appointment.
How much should I expect to pay for my cake?
Because every cake is different, it is impossible to give an exact price
without knowing all the details. This is variable based on the
design and size of the cake, in addition to the types of fillings and
icings used. The amount of decoration needed for a cake can raise the
cost above the starting price. Naturally, a large, intricate cake is
going to cost you more than a small, simple cake. Sculpted or shaped
cakes are priced on a case-by-case basis.
How can I pay for my cake?
I accept cash, cheque and electronic payments.
What is a cake consultation?
The consultation allows you to meet with the baker, determine what type
of cake, frosting, and design your interested in. The tasting is just a
sample, I offer a wide variety of items and are willing to quote just
about any flavour or combination. The consultation is for wedding cakes
only. I do not charge for a consultation.
What is the best way to reach you?
The best way to reach me is by phone 082 412 9953 or
email riana@cakediva.co.za.
I found my ideal cake in a copy of a bridal magazine. Can you
do it?
Bring the picture along with you to your consultation and I'll see what
I can do.
When is the final date to make changes to the cake/design?
You have until 4 weeks prior to the wedding to make changes to the cake
design and flavours. Some design/flavour changes may
require additional cost which would be due at that time. The final count
is also due at that time.
We’re on a tight budget for our wedding, can you work with
us?
Yes! I have options available for most budgets.
Will you do Cupcake towers?
Yes!
Do I have to pick a cake from your portfolio?
Absolutely not! The portfolio is there to display my past work and to
inspire you! I will custom design your cake just for you. Of course, if
you see a cake in the portfolio that you like and want it duplicated, I
can do that, too!
Can you match my colours/dress/invitations/napkins/etc?
Yes! You will need to provide swatches/photos/samples for me to get a
truly accurate representation. I will make every possible effort to
translate your cake dreams into reality and am confident that I can turn
out a product that you will be delighted with – but please bear in mind
that printer inks and couture fashion do not always translate exactly
into sugar form, and precise matches are sometimes impossible.
Do you bake the cakes? When do you bake them?
I make the cakes myself. Your cake is made just for you. Cakes for large
orders may be baked up to a week ahead and frozen in order to retain
their freshness. Most cakes, however, are baked two to three days prior
to the event.
What is your delivery area?
I deliver mainly to the Johannesburg/ Witwatersrand area, but
arrangements can be made for other areas. I do charge a delivery fee.
